Issho Izakaya – Value For Money Japanese Delights at Kallang Wave Mall + Vouchers Giveaway!

The newly opened Kallang Wave Mall at the Sports Hub has been quite an unexplored place, and foodies are likely to find many restaurants there – some new to the Singapore market.

Issho Izakaya is quite a hidden find, literally too, as you have to walk outside and to the back. The walk may be worth it, as you find an izakaya style Japanese restaurant, spacious, selling value-for-money Japanese cuisine.

The restaurant is helmed by Japanese chef Takayuki Fukushima, who had stints in both Tokyo and France. Therefore you may spot some European influences in some of the items, especially in terms of presentation style.

Slipping through its menu, I noticed the range of dishes available is quite huge, from appetizers, salads, sushi, sashimi, agemono, wagyu items, kushiyaki, nabemono to desserts. Possibly quite family and large group friendly. Noticed two private rooms too.

I zoomed in straight to the Bara Chirashi Don ($24.50) – a huge bowl of assorted sashimi slices over Japanese rice, and didn’t regret my choice.

Issho Izakaya can be quite different from what you are used to. The rice was stickier, drier and sweeter. A quail egg was added on top, possibly included to cleverly add some moisture and stickiness, without stealing the thunder away from the main cast – the sashimi slices.

The ladies at my table (and I) enjoyed the Buta Shabu Salad ($12.80) for the thinly sliced tender pork slices, refreshingly drizzled with goma sauce.

True enough the Blancmange ($8.50), the panna cotta pudding done black sesame way, looked like a brilliant art piece from a top shot. Also, it is not common to see homemade black sesame used in this Italian dessert. French trained chef, Japanese restaurant, Italian dessert – a fine synergy.

Good to know: If you choose to sit outside for alfresco dining, you get a view of the Kallang River waterfront.

Issho Izakaya Christmas Menu
For the month of December, Issho Izakaya has launched a Christmas menu set, great if you are finding a Japanese restaurant for your December festive meet-ups.

3 sets are available – the Deluxe ($48, $65), Rejoice ($68, $86) and Enchanted ($88, $105) sets. The difference in prices for are options of non-alcoholic drinks (Pink Fantasy and Iced Ocha), or alcoholic drinks (1999 Premium Umeshu, and Asabiraki Kyokusen)

The Rejoice Set, affordably priced at $68 and $85 (alcoholic option), features an 8-course meal with highlights being the Creamy Mentaico Spaghetti, Hotate Saikyou Yaki with plump grilled scallops and Duck a l’Orange – roasted duck served with pumping puree and Japanese sweet potato.
