Orchid Hotel at Tanjong Pagar looks like Chef Keisuke Takeda lucky spot. Even though Keisuke Tonkotsu King there is not his first outlet in Singapore, it is there where he achieved ‘ramen superstar’ status. There are still queues even though the shop has been around for years.
Let’s see what else he owns there. Keisuke Gyoza King, Tendon Ginza Itsuki and Takeda Shouten Sake Bar. (Ramen Keisuke Tori King is a short walk away at 100AM.)
Chef picked Orchid Hotel for his two newest outlets as he hopes to build a Keisuke ‘Yoko Chou’ in Singapore, with four different Keisuke dining concepts all within few steps away from one another. A ‘Yoko Chou’ is like a soul district, very common in Japan itself.
Takeda Shouten serves an assortment of bar bites, oden, cold dishes, sashimi, gyoza (from few doors away), grilled dishes, and small rice dishes.
So this is not really a restaurant to have lunch at. It opens at 1pm, and offers mainly counter seating with some small bar tables.
The dish I would recommend is the Beef Skirt Steak ($17.80), prepared grilled, lean, rather flavoursome with marinate quite similar to Chinese style cooking.
Its Salmon and Salmon Roe on Rice ($14.80) was not too bad, but Teppei-san’s Hana Hana and Sushi Kou are in the same building, both offering better versions of a similar dish.
A wide range of sake and several Japanese imported liqueurs is available. In a nut shell, Takeda Shouten Sake Bar is a Japanese-styled “drinks after work” Chef Keisuke Takeda is hoping to introduce as an alternative to the bars here in Singapore.
